FARM LAND BEING OPENED UP IN WAIKATO DISTRICT

(P.A.) AUCKLAND, May 7. Farm land in the Waikato district opened up as a result of the hydroelectric schemes on the river will accommodate the first settlers in July. Eight farms are to be balloted for among ex-servicemen.

It is planned that these will provide the town milk supply for Mangakino which is to be a labour pool for the new power stations for the next decade. Access to the Mangakino district has opened up thousands of acres.

The eight new farms are part of 3200 acres of Crown land sown in grass by the Lands and Survey Department since the latter part of 1946.

Since August the Maori Affairs Department has sown in grass 2300 acres of 40,000 acres which belong to the Wairarapa Maoris. Eight dairy units have been subdivided for allocation.
