Experts To Study Use Of Drugs By Midwives

(10 a.m.) LONDON, May 6. The Ministry of Health announced that the Medical Research Council has set up a committee to promote research into analgesia for use by midwives. The chairman is Sir William Gilliatt, president of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists. Before the' final decision can be reached regarding any new methods by which midwives could safely administer analgesics without medical supervision, extensive clinical trials will probably be necessary.
