MAY FARM WORK
Plant early potatoes in frost-free areas. Do not lime for potatoes. Plough now areas intended for potatoes later. If out of pasture, skim plough- and work top with discs and cultivator, then plough deeply. This ensures the least amount of weeds and thorough rotting into good manure of the old grass.
Overhaul maize cribs; complete the buildings of new ones. Earlier ripened maize should be picked as soon as possible while land is still firm, and to spread the
demand for machinery and pickers. Clearing of drains should be completed this month. Dept, of Agriculture, Gisborne.
