44 Drowned In Cloudburst In Iraq

(11 a.m.) LONDON, April 7. Forty-two schoolgirls, a boy and a man were drowned and 34 other people are reported missing following a cloudburst at Tel Kief in Northern Iraq, says the British United Press correspondent in Baghdad. Torrents more than 3ft. deep swept away a church and a convent and collapsed scores of houses. Small girls who were unable to run sufficiently fast to reach high ground are among the victims.

Hundreds of Tel Kief families are homeless. Tel Kief has a population of 18,000.
