FALSE STEP AT A FALSE PRICE
(Herald Special Service.) Proved as a brilliant sprinter who only a few weeks previously won an important short race at Trentham, False Step was at a false price when she won the seven furlong Longburn Handicap on Saturday. Her defeat on the second day at Wellington was influenced by the boring out by another runner. Since False Step got the tapes in her mouth at Ellerslie last December she has been hesitant at the start. This tendency was probably a factor considered by bettors at Awapuni where she could not afford to be badly placed over the first furlong or so. She seems to be back to her best again and will now be considered in a better light for the C.J-C. Easter, a race she won impressively last season. The Robin Goodfellow filly Pitoitoi did her best this season when beating all but False Step. She appears now to be developing in accordance with the promise she gave as a two-year-old. She has weighed-in after each of her last three starts and Is one to watch over Easter.
Kia Ora Kaloa has to put up with a minor place again, his third in succession. He is another that should soon return to the winning list-
