IMPERIAL, TENOR ROYAL AND BARRAGE SHOULD RUN WELL IN PRESIDENT'S AT LEVIN

(Herald Special Service.)

At the one-day autumn meeting of the Levin Racing Club in Levin tomorrow arrangements have had to be made to hold three of the races in divisions. In all the other events very fair acceptances also have been received.

Gisborne stables will be represented by His Nibs, Merry Bing and Run Bahadur. The going should be first-class if rain does not fall between now and Saturday. The two chief races, the President’s and the Stewards’ Handicaps, should furnish close competition, but there is nothing outstanding in either.

TARARUA HACK HURDLES In the Tararua Hack Hurdles Incident tops the list with 10.3. It has not raced since running third to Result and Roman Duke in the hurdles at Bulls last July. King of Quiz will be making his first hurdle appearance and although he is reported to be a fast fencer a mile and three-quarters may be a little far for the Theio gelding in his first up. Incision’s fourth in the maiden the other day points to him being one to give a very fair show in this race. Rockanui has not been running as well as he should of late so is passed over in the meantime in favour of Tudor Chief, who is on the same weight mark. Captain Jesse is a little hackward. Magnus Lux won the last hurdle race he contested —at Gisborne in February. Fairhome as a rule is not in the right galloping mood, and Becalm has little hurdle experience as yet. Tomahawk has recent minor placings to his credit. Awaroa Stream gallops fast, but as a hurdler is an unknown quantity. Peter Brierlv has a little better form than the the other nine-stoner, Sky Bomb. MAIDEN RACE

recent conqueror. Closeburn is a quiet “whisper” for this event, and Legendre is another that will appreciate the distance- Sea Shanty may prefer the Maiden. Supreme Shepherd, on his third to Vane Master and Oberon at Opaki is lined up with the possibilities. Run Bahadur finished fast last week and impressed as though a mile and a quarter should not trouble him and he is certainly bred on staying lines. The remaining half-dozen or so do not make a strong appeal, although Winning Ticket could be described as an outside place possibility. *STEWARDS’ HANDICAP TRAVEL KING, a form and consistent horse of late, carried No. 1 saddle cloth in the six-furlong Stewards’ Handicap and may be entrusted with a fair amount of support. JULIUS CAESAR if In a galloping mood might be in the final decision. MERRY BING, the Gisborne representative, at 8.5 would be a consideration as he won at his last start with only lib less than he carries tomorrow. Also, he has been only once unplaced this season so on the law of averages should make some return at Levin. KIA ORA KATOA on liis recent placings must be very hard to beat. AIR BELLE, third at Awapuni, enters calculations. TIIE STORMOVIK is not a “hot” hope. ANGELL has been disappointing. FIRST ACT does not appeal.

The Maiden Race will be run in divisions. In the First Division Clueless, second in his last three starts, may win this time His most dangerous opponent may be Cadwallon and Sea Shanty. In the Second Division the best chances seem to be possessed by Tharariche and Le Cri. The latter is reported to be very fast, but has not yet been produced. APPRENTICES’ HACK RACE The seven-furlong Apprentices’ Hack Race also may be run in divisions. The First Division is headed by the Masterton winner Announcer, who is not exactly a consistent performer. Chip goes fast, like all the Theios, but seven furlongs may be a little far The chances arc that he will go to the front and his rider endeavour to slow the field down. Lackagh is taking some time to get out of this grade. Sir Denzil has not been racing since early in January. Conceal is passed over in favour of Dandy Ninth and some may take it as a good omen that tomorrow is the ninth of the month.

DEMURE, on the minimum, is a consieration. and with BLUE SKIMMERS, MASTER RICH and FOLLOW SUIT look like being lightweight possibilities. FAREWELL HACK HDCP. The Farewell Hack Handicap, run over three-quarters of a mile, may be run in two heats. Snow Boy failed last week, but may find the company this time not quite as slick- Destination led all the way to win his last effort at South Canterbury and on that may be one of the fancied candidates tomorrow. Announcer and Chip are engaged earlier in the day, but Chip may be reserved for this event as the distance suits him • better. Sahara,

In the Second Division the field is again even with Arvadale the virtual top-weight, and she will be hard, too. Roscarca would need to improve on Opaki form. Guerdon will not lack for friends. Of the others, the best liked may be Grey Arch and Foxtonian. HANDICAP A dozen figure on the acceptance list in the President’s Handicap, with IMPERIAL, third in the King George Handicap at his last start, the topweight and in all probability a favourite on both machines. BARRAGE should be all the better for last Saturday’s race. TENOR ROYAL is another that is expected to strike winning form in the near future.

KIA ORA KATOA has been placed in the last three sprint races contested and is now to be tried over a mile and a quarter again. * PLAYBOY has won over middledistances and does not simplify the solving of the problem by his presence. HIGH ORDER would appreciate an easy track. MASTER FOX was just a fair hack. The FOXELLA-PAPER RUFFLE bracket does not make a very strong appealREVELLER, it will be remembered, surprised over a middle-distance in a hack race at the last Trentham fixture. LACKAMOIt makes up the dozen. JUVENILE HANDICAP His Nibs resumes racing tomorrow in the Juvenile Handicap, in which he has actually less weight to carry than he has been awarded the first day of the Canterbury Jockey Club’s autumn meeting. Birdman-Dowry make a fair combination and a good race is expected from both. Pictagain won at his last start so for that reason enters calculations with the right form. Cyclops is another winner that will have to be treated with respect, although he was never in the call the first day at Awapuni. Gleam has a little place form, but of the others there is no form forthcoming. WAITARERE HACK HDCP. ..Last Saturday’s first and second r>lnce-"elters at Awapuni, Bar Garettc rnd Master Crusoe, are both included

: n the mile and a quarter hack race, but Master Crusoe now with Hlb in his favour may turn the tables on his

iinißiPKuiiUißiiaiiauinii!iuii!i::!iiiiiiiaßiiiiii!iiii«iifflinniiinnfflfflnißßiiniiuidaiiianmr Guerdon, and Gay Viking are place possibilities among the others. Livre d’Or, virtual top-weight in the Second Division, will he as well fancied as the others. Arvastep goes fast, while Jolly Robin, Proclaim, Bonny Banks and Miss Broiefoft all help to make this event as difficult as any on the card.
