Executive Alleges Attack Designed To Smash Union
(P.A.) WELLINGTON, April 6.
A call to members of the New Zealand Waterside Workers’ Union to stand firm against attacks designed to “smash the union” was made at the meeting of the national executive of the union today. The executive adopted a resolution stating that attacks on the president and secretary were a “prelude to a general attack on the union” and reaffirmed continued confidence in Mr. H. Barnes and Mr. T. Hill, the president and and secretary respectively.
Mr. Hill, in a statement after the meeting, said that the latest letter from the Minister of Labour, Mr. A. McLagan. was received by the executive without discussion. He added that the secretary, president and vicepresident of the union (Mr. A. Drennan) would be working on a report for members during the next few days.
