TENNIS TOURNEY TO FOLLOW EMPIRE GAMES
(P.A.) WELLINGTON, Mar. 10. Having been unsuccessful in efforts to have tennis included in the programme for the British Empire Games, the management committee of the New Zealand Lawn Tennis Association has decided to approve the holding of a tournament immediately following the games. An invitation has been extended to all Empire countries to send teams of two men and two women to take part. Negotiations with the Australian professional tennis player, D, Pails, followed recent proposals by the New Zealand Lawn Tennis Association to introduce a coaching scheme for this year. However, because of the shortness of time available and the difficulty of transport it was found necessary to postpone the scheme. It is to be considered again early next season.
