Protection Urged Of Archaeological Sites
(P.A.) WELLINGTON. Mar. 8. Suggestions that museums might advise on what were likely to be important archaelogical sites in New Zealand and that these sites should be protected, were made by Sir Peter Buck in a public address last evening. Sir Peter said it was most important that excavations likely to lead to worthwhile discoveries should be properly carried out.
There were also good reasons, he added, why material found in caves, for instance, should be regarded as treasure trove and handed over to the Government to be held in trust.
