Regent.—" The Saxon Charm." Frederick Wakeman’s sensational novel about a mythical Broadway theatrical mngnate who literally "drives people out of their minds,” has been converted into a motion picture. The film, produced by Universal-International and co-starring Robert Montgomery, Susan Hayward. John Payne and Audrey Totter, is now showing at the Regent. Montgomery has the role of Matt Saxon, one of Wakeman’s most colourful fiction characters. Miss Hayward appears ns the wife of Eric Busch, the bewildered author-playwright of the story. Payne has the latter role while Miss Trotter is seen as Saxon’s girl friend.
Majestic.—"Man-Eater of Kumaon,” starring Sabu, Joan Page and Wendell, Corey, heads today’s programme. It tells the gripping story of a hunter who became the hunted —of a village surrounded by lurking death —and of a beautiful girl whose love defied the jungle terror, and led her to offer herself as a human sacrifice. The associate feature, “Arabian Nights.” stars Jon Hall, Marin Montez and Sabu and is filmed in Technicolour.
King’s.—For those who like something a little different in' their comedy, "Miranda" should appeal. It commences at the King’s Theatre tonight. Described as the “flippant tale of a girl who came to a fishy end,” the story runs brightly through to the end which oomen all too soon. Taking the leading role is delightful Glynis Johns, supported by Griffith Jones, Googie Withers and David Tomlinson. Many of the sentiences are very funny, and the dialogue is particularly witty.
