BUILDER FINED £135 FOR BREACHES OF REGULATIONS
(P.A.) NEW PLYMOUTH, Mar. 8. For building a house without a permit, Leo Edward Curd, a builder, of New Plymouth, was fined £125 in the Police Court at New Plymouth yesterday. For installing galvanised iron eaves, gutters and rainwater downpipes without a permit he was fined £lO- - is a flagrant and somewhat impertinent breach of the law,” said Mr. J. P. Quilliam, representing the Building Controller. The completed house had a floor space of 1433 square feet whereas the maximum allowed was 1150 square feet. “There can be no question that Curd did not know for he is a builder,” counsel commented. Of their kind the breaches were among the most s'erious to come before the court at New Plymouth, said Mr. Quilliam. On April 13, 1948, the Building Controller received an application for a house of 1327 square reet floor spaceFuture information was asked for by the controller and on May 3 Curd was notified that the biggest floor area allowed was 1150 square feet and that his application was declined. On October 28 it was discovered that he had gone ahead with a house of 1433 square feet and that, to all intents and purposes it was finished. He then applied for another permit for a house of 1220 square feet, never mentioning that the house was completed. “It appears that at no time has he had any intention of complying with the law,” Mr. Quilliam remarked.
