BREEDING EWES’ IMPROVED RATES AT MORRINSVILLE

A full entry of fat sheep sold well at the Morrinsville stock sale on Friday, the rates being slightly in advance of the previous week’s prices. Store lambs were firmer. A large entry of breeding ewes was on offer, including the advertised 2-ths from Gisborne. Competition was strong for all classes and prices were in advance of recent sales. Fat cows again sold freely at very firm values. Boner cows and bulls also were keenly competed for and the market remained steady at late firm rates. The entry of Jersey heifer calves was of medium quality and all lines were disposed of, despite the quietness of the bidding. Prices:— Sheep.—Fat woolly hoggets, 46s 6d to 51s; fat shorn hoggets, 38s to 38s 9d; fat ewes, 28s 9d to 31s 3d; fat lambs, 37s to 395: medium. 32s to 345; good store b.f. lambs, 25s to 275; medium 21s 6d to 235; average w.f. stors lambs, 20s to 225; small, 15s to 18s; good 2-th ewes, 47s to 495; average, 43s to 45s 6d; small, 40s to 425; 4 and 5-yr. ewes, 42s 3d; 5-yr. ewes, 33s to 365; older ewes, 26s to 30s.

Cattle.—Heavy fat Friesian and Ayrshire cows, £lO 17s to £l2; heavy, fat young Jersey cows, £8 10s to £lO 15s; heavy boner cows, £7 to £9 ss; medium, £5 to £6 15s; bulls, £8 7s 6d to £ls ss; medium Jersey heifer calves. £5 6s to £6 ss; smaller, £3 4s to £4 15s.
