SOVIET MINISTER APPOINTED TO N.Z.
(P.A.) WELLINGTON, Mar- 5. The appointment of M, Alexander M. Alexandrov as Envoy Extraordinary and Minister Plenipotentiary of the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics in New Zealand is announced by the Minister of External Affairs, Mr. P. Fraser. It is not known when Mr. Alexandrov will arrive in New Zealand, concludes Mr. Fraser's announcement. Mr. Alexandrov, who Is married, was born, in 1907. He is an engineer by training, entered the diplomatic service of the U.S.S.R. in 1939 and was head of the Department of the Minister for Foreign Affairs until 1940 when he was appointed counsellor with the Soviet mission in Bulgaria. From 1942 until 1944 Mr. Alexandrov was counsellor at the Soviet Legation in Canberra and from 1944 until his present appointment he occupied a responsible post with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Moscow. 1-Ie is the holder of Soviet decorations.
A London message, quoting the Tass news agency in Moscow, states that the former Soviet Minister to New Zealand. Mr. Zyabkin. has been relieved of his post and Mr. Alexander Alevandrov appointed in his stead. No reason is given for Mr. Zyabkin's withdrawal.
