Wellington Wharves Idle Today After Slopwork Meeting
(P.A.) WELLINGTON. Mar. 3. There was no work on the Wellington waterfront todav following a slopwork meeting of the Wellington Waterside Workers' Union, which discussed the non-oa.vment of workers engaged for the Tamahine and Kanna last Saturday and various actions of the Wellington Harbour Board.
Work on those two ships was held up through a dispute in the sheds arising out of the Saturday morning engagement of non-union labour.
Today’s stopwork was stated by tire union to be a protest against nonpayment and also against nnn-provision of penalties for the Harbour Board and shipping companies when the dispute was created by them. The usual arrangements for handling passengers’ baggage, mails and cars by the crews after six p.m. will operate this evening on the inter-island steamers.
