GISBORNE TEAMS DO WELL AT CENTRE BOWLING CHAMPS
WOMEN BOWLERS
Of the five Gisborne women’s teams which took part in the annual _East Coast Women’s Bowling Centre rinks tournament held in Hastings last week, one reached the semi-finals, but was beaten by the eventual runners-up. Thirty-two teams from all parts of the North Island took part in the tournament. The five teams from the Riverside Women's Bowling Club were: Mesdames A Twigley, R. Kelly, M. Patty, F Coker (s); Mesdames J. Griggs, J. Murphy, W. Burch W Gilgren (s); Mesdames D. vVatt, W. Tennent, R.- Watts, W. Blair (s); Mesdames R. Galloway, E. Jenkins, P. G. Mackay, T. Sangwell (s): Mesdames M. Wilkinson, T. Crack, A. Robertson. J. Keenan (s).
The summary of games won and lost by the teams is: Mrs. Sangwell, four wins, 2 losses: Mrs. Blair, three wins, three losses, Mrs. Keenan two wins, four losses: Mrs. Gilgren. one win, five losses; Mrs. Coker, no wins, six losses.
Qualifying for the post-section play, Mrs. Sangwell’s team won their first two games to reach the semi-final. Play was of a high standard in all these games and some excellent play was seen in the semi-finals, when Mrs. Sangwell’s team was defeated by one point by Mrs. Mackay’s team from Port Ahuriri. The final resulted: Mrs. Sinclair’s team. Port Ahuriri, 17, defeated Mrs. Mackay’s team, Port Ahuriri, 16. At the conclusion of the tournament the trophies were presented by Mrs. C. I. Wilkinson, president of the centre.
