Junior Shot Put Feature of Weekly Floodlight Sports
Contested at the weekly floodlight sports of the Gisborne Amateur Athletic Club on Thursday night, the final of three running events in the season's competition for the C. E. Brown Trophy left the sprinter, R. J. Hickman, ns the winner. He was presented with the trophy by the club president, Mr. W. Carmichael.
The outstanding performance of the evening was that of C. Torrey, who in the junior shot put recorded 40ft. llin., the 'best distance of the season by a junior at any meeting in the Hawke’s-Bay-Poverty Bay centre, though 20in. less than the winning performance of 42ft. 7Jin., achieved by W. Robinson, also of the Gisborne club, at the junior championships of the centre last year. Form this season indicates that the club should be well represented in the centre championships for women and juniors to be held in Gisborne on Saturday of next week.
