Britain and Egypt have agreed to cooperate in the first step of a gigantic programme to develop electric power in the heart of Africa, to control the Nile floods and to prevent • future famines, says the Associated Press correspondent. I The Egyptian Cabinet has announced its decision to join the British’ protectorate of Uganda in the building of a £12,000,000 dam at Owen FdUs, more than 2000 miles south of Cairo. This dam is intended to store water in Lake Victoria, develop electricity for the Uganda, and permit Egypt to reclaim additional farmland from the desert along the Nile. Cabinet said that Egypt would contribute about £4,500,000 towards the project and Uganda about £7,500,000.
