The Longest Day.
The occurrence of the summer solstice today marks the longest day of the year in the Southern Hemisphere and the official beginning of summer. The meteorological summer began several weeks ago, and varies from place to place each year with climatic variations.
Party For Firemen’s Children Children of firemen from the Gisborne fire station had a special treat on Monday night when they attended a Christmas party at the station. Rides on the fire engines proved an adventure, and the presence of Father Christmas and a Christmas tree added to the excitement. A party tea with soft drinks and ice cream was hold out-of-doors and the usual Christmas presentation of ties and handkerchiefs to ex-firemen was made by the superintendent, Mr. J. \V. Kane.
