SKYROCKETING BIDDING AT LAND AUCTIONS

(P.A.)

AUCKLAND, Dec. 21

Early amended legislation to prevent the "sky’s the limit” bidding for vacant sections at public auctions held by the registrar was urged on the Government bv the South Auckland Land Sales Committee sitting in Auckland today. The committee slashed prices paid by what were termed “speculative builders” for sections in New Lynn, but warned that this action must not be taken as an indication that the court in future might not uphold price bids. The Crown alleged that ex-service-men had been shut out by the bidding, and Mr. J. E. Aubin, in opposing the applications for the committee's consenl to the sales, declared that the court's refusal was the only way to stop "sky rocketing bidding” at future auctions.
