WAGES INCREASE FOR BOILERMAKERS

WELLINGTON, Dec. 22,
The Court of Arbitration in a new award for boilermakers covering the Northern Wellington, Canterbury and Otago and Southland industrial districts fixes the minimum rate of wages at 3s 9£d an hour, an increase of 2£d. Boilermakers employed on ship repair work on board ship are to be paid lAd an hour extra. All repair work in used boilers, smoke boxes, uptakes, funnels and between boilers and the brickwork of boilers is to be paid for at Is an hour extra in addition to the ordinary or overtime rate as the case may be.
Boilermakers employed on oxyacetylene or electric welding (except on spot or butt welding machines) for less than four hours in a day are to be paid Is 3d a clay extra, for more than four hours in a day 2s extra a day. Overtime and holiday provisions have not been altered.
The award comes into force immediately and will continue till December 20, 1949.
