POINT AT ISSUE A MISUNDERSTANDING -RACING DISPUTE

(P.A.) WELLINGTON, Dec. 20. Referring to the possibility of all race meetings throughout New Zealand being declared black, the Conciliation Commissioner, Mr. S. Ritchie, said that the point at issue was a misunderstanding over what had been settled at tho conciliation hearing. Consequently, he thought it advisable to bring the council together again and he gave the union a tentative date, December 22, for the discussions. He had been obliged to call off this meeting because the employers said that they could not meet on that date. It was close to Christmas and there was uncertainty about accommodation and transport. The question of whether the co-opera-tion of the Federation of Labour should be sought is to be the subject of a telegraph ballot of the national council of the New Zealand Labourers’ Federation, Mr. P. M. Butler, conciliation advocate for the federation, said last night. Mr. Butler said the federation was also getting in touch with all unions who had workers employed on racecourses on race days. He added that the federation was prepared at any time to meet the other party to the dispute.
