Motives Of Indian Leaders Under Fire
JAIPUR (Rajputana), Dec. 19. The Prime Minister, Mr. Nehnx, demanded and received a vote of confidence in his Government from the Subjects Committee of the Indian National Congress. The issue arose out of the passing on Saturday of an amendment to a resolution which said that contact with power had affected many congressmen and that there was a tendency to use this power and position for self-interest. It appealed to all congressmen, and more especially to members of the central and provincial Legislatures, to maintain a high standard of public conduct. The amendment introduced specific mention of Cabinet Ministers among those to whom the appeal was directed. At -a special meeting of the Subjects Committee today Mr. Nehru asked that the matter should be reopened. He said that when the appeal in the amended resolution specified a small body like Cabinet, it became a matter of censure whether the committee intended it or not. “We cannot work if we are slogged and cursed,” he added.
