ATTACK PLANNED ON NEW YEAR’S DAY, DUTCH SAY
(10.30 a.m.) BATAVIA, Dec. 20. The army of the Indonesian Republic had planned an attack on New Year’s Day, declared the Netherlands Informa, tion Bureau in San Francisco —the official agency of the Dutch Government. The agency said that plans for the attack were discovered when infiltrating Republican troops were captured in Pasundan, West Java, “while carrying out orders to prepare for such an attack.” When the police action began, 15,000 Republican troops were terrorising areas of Java under Netherlands authority in direct violation of the truce. In the seven-day period ended December 15 Republican troops in the federal States of Pasundan and East Java killed 67 Indonesian State officials. The Filipinos expressed deep regret today at the latest Dutch military action in Indonesia, states the Associated Press correspondent in Manila. The Dutch action is viewed as an unwitting aid to the Communist propaganda programme in South-East Asia.
