School Christmas Tree Perhaps the most popular part of last week’s functions for pupils of the Te Karaka School was the distribution of gifts from the large Christmas tree set up in the Waikohu Hall. This is the first occasion that the school has had a Christmas tree, the idea being initiated by the headmaster, Mr. A. E. Manning, and enthusiastically carried out by members of the school committee, who had the generous support of the public. After the 350 pupils entered the hall with their teachers, Father Christmas arrived in traditional costume and was received with delight by the children. Massed carol singing was enjoyed before Father Christmas began his big task of giving each child a present from the tree. In addition to these presents, members of the committee dispensed ice cream, cordials and a packet of sweets to each child. Great credit is due to the headmaster and staff, members of the committee, end Father Christmas for organising such a successful Christmas treat for the children, and special mention must be made of the work of Mesdames J. Twigley and L. McKenzie in wrapping the parcels and tying up the gaily coloured bags of sweets and in arranging the tree.
