UNDERWATER SMUGGLER
On the shores of Lake Lugano, Italian police noticed a tiny submarine, operated by one-man pedal power. Very plausible was the story of its owner, Lorenzo Castoldi. He was an inventor, who had built it secretly near Porto Ceresio. Soon it would be patented and its inventor famous. Fame has come already, for the police recalled how two years ago a German submarine thereabouts was used for smuggling. It didn’t take them long to discover that Castoldi’s 12ft. 6in.. pedal craft was similarly engaged. Several times a week the underwater cyclist from Switzerland had been bringing a ton of watches, chocolate, and cigarettes.
