TE KARAKA TRIBUTES TO GUIDE CAPTAIN

Members of the Te Karaka Guide committee and the Girl Guide Company met at the home of the president, Mrs. C. C. Dowding, “Rangatira,” Tc Karaka to farewell the Guide Captain, Miss Edna Manuel, prior to her marriage this week to Mr. J. J. A. McLaughlin. Miss Manuel was appointed Guide Captain early this year and has been a very capable and popular officer and has brought the company to a high state of efficiency. Appreciation of her work with the Guides and best wishes for her future happiness were expressed by Mrs. Dowding, who presented her with a gift from the committee. A presentation from the Guide Company was made by Guide Joan Bennett and, in addition miscellaneous gift parcels were sent by many unable to attend. A dainty tea was served on the verandah after which a diverting competition arranged for the guests was won by Mrs. R. D. Dymock. Those present included Mesdames H. Telford_, M. D. Manuel, J. D. Clark, R. D. Dymock, L. F. Anderson, D. C. Dymock, and T. B. Bennett, Misses L. Ruru, C. Manuel and members of the Guide Company.
