AUSTRALIAN LINSEED CROPS INCREASE
(Reuter Correspondent.) (By Air Mail) SYDNEY. Last year the area in Australia sown in linseed was 1890 acres. This year the total is 20,000 acres, and from the seed raised it is planned to plant 200,000 acres next year and. eventually, to increase the area sown to 250,000 acres, which is estimated to be sufficient to supply requirements. In Queensland this year 5000 acres are expected to yield 80.000 bushels of seed worth £ 100.000. A crop of 50.000 acres is planned in that State for 1949, from which the sponsors hope to realise 10,000 tons of linseed oil. In New South Wales about G 00() acres are under crop in the Tamworth, Morce and Inverell districts .and other crops are growing in the Mudgee, Dubbo, Cowra. Wagga. Cootamundra and Albury districts. Crops are also growing in Victoria and South Australia.
