TOP GRADE ELEVENS IN P.B. SERIES OPENING LAST GAMES OF FIRST ROUND

The programme of competition play during the holiday period was revised at this week’s meeting of the management committee of the Poverty Bay Cricket Association In view of the inclusion of five players in Ihe minor association match at Hamilton January 1. :t and 4. one of the New Zealand representative trial series and the visit of the association senior B representatives to Hawke's Bay.

As a result the plan for association competition, play on January 3 has been abandoned. The revision provides for competition play in all grades tomorrow, followed next by Senior A and Senior B fixtures on Monday. December 27. after which there will be no play in the' competitions until January 8. when all grades are to resume. Cancellation Needed. Following an explanation that ‘ho preparation of the Oval grounds for the representative match with Hawke's Bay meant the sacrifice of needed work on' the Childers Road Reserve, the committee decided also to cancel the competition play planned for the two matting-on-turf wickets on the Reserve last Saturday. Play. in the two Senior B. two-day matches concerned. Rugbv Old Bovs fAI v. R. 5.0.8.. and United v. Rugby Old Boys (P»). is to commence tomorrow. Last Saturday's play in the same grade between High School and Marist,, which took place on the High School mounds, is not affected. The match is being continued tomorrow and the teams will have byes on tire succeeding day of plnv when the other two matches are to be completed. Top and Bottom Teams Meeting.

The. Senior A teams tomorrow commence the concluding matches of the first round, the leading eleven, Rugby Old Boys, meeting United, at. present in bottom position, while Marist. holding second place by the slender margin of one point, meet H. 5.0.8.. occupying the third rung on tire championshin ladder. In the last games completed. Rugbv Old Bovs gained a first-innings win over Marist and U. 5.0.- secured a similar decision against United, who havr. yet to collect winning points.

The Scmor B games are the third series of the five in the first round.
