Belgian Textile Workers Wanted In Britain
(10 a.m.)
PARIS, Dec. 14,
According to press reports, the agents of British textile firms have been trying to recruit labour from among the 60,000 Belgian textile workers employed in France.
These agents were said to be offering contracts to Belgian workers in the hope of increasing manpower in the British textile factories, mainly in Lancashire. It was stated that an agreement between the British and Belgian Governments had been reached in the matter.
The reports said that such a move would help to reduce the large number of unemployed who were having such a serious effect on the finances of the Belgian Government. The strike by Belgian workers threatens to halt the cotton industry in Northern France within a few days.
