LONDON, Nov. 21. In the battle of Arras, Flanders, in April, 1017. a German sniper shot lean. Oft. Major Desmond Morton through the heart. With the bullet still in his. heart. Sii Desmond Morton celebrated his 57tb birthday this week by, felling trees in the garden of his 14th Century cottage at Crockham Hill, Kent. Surgeons have nevei dared to operate to remove the bullet because it i? in a dangerous position. When he was wounded, surgeons gave him nine months’ sick leave, told him not to ride or take violent exercise again. Sir Desmond Morton, a broad-should-ered. moustached bachelor, said: “If I had obeyed the doctors, life wouldn’t have been worth living.”
