N.Z.-BRED SIRES REPRESENTED BY THREE PLACINGS

(Herald Special Service.)

Veine d'Or, winner of the open sprint at Otaki, had not succeeded since the autumn, though she had run one or two fair races. She is a four-year-old by the N.Z.-bred sire, Beau Vite from Gold Vein, by Hunting Song from Bayana, by Birkenhead from Whaitiri, by Musket, and cost her owner, Mr. T. Coltman, Wellington, 410 guineas as a yearling.

The consistent mare, Miss Bairnsfather, by Old Bill, ran another good race for second while the Joviality mare, Full of Fun, was third. Thus N.Z.-bred sires produced the first, second and third place-getters in this event. Castlebrae, with lOlbs. less than Miss Bairnsfather, looked the logical favourite. However, he may do bettor later. Air Belle, having her dress rehearsal for the Auckland Railway. showed her usual speed, but failed to stay the distance, though she may still have to be given a show, too, in the big Ellerslio sprint.
