GLADIOLI AND ROSES MAKE COLOURFUL DISPLAY AT HICKS BAY
(Herald Correspondent.) The Hinemaurea Hall, Hicks Bay, presented a colourful spectacle on Saturday when' ladies of the district initiated their annual gladiolus flower show. In both colour and quality the blooms exhibited would have been difficult to surpass. The show attracted a satisfactory number of entries and was successful in every respect. Although it was primarily for gladioli growers, exhibitors supported other sections strongly. The principal award of the day was the Pakuru memorial trophy which commemorates the late Mrs. B. Pakuru's enthusiasm for gladioli culture and will serve each year to recall the fact that many of the blooms exhibited are descended from stock distributed by her among local growers. The trophy, which takes the form of a pair of silver vases set in a black wooden stand, was won by Mrs. R. G. Saxby. The award for champion bloom of the show went to Mrs. Pohe for her "Mark Memory” exhibit.
Mrs. A. F. 'Hindmarsh judged the gladioli and Mrs C. H. Clarke joined her in judging the cut ffowers and vegetables. Mrs. Clarke acted as steward for the show. Awards of Judges
