Gisborne Rider’s Success

Competing with riders from Opotiki and Whakatane, and conceding substantial handicaps in all his events, the Gisborne motor-cycle speed-track rider, J. Benson, proved outstanding at the first meeting of the Opotiki Motor-Cycle Club on its new course. He won the scratch event of 500 c.e. machines, and also the handicap event for highpowered machines, in which A. Sneddon, also of Gisborne, filled second place. ‘'Undoubtedly the star rider of the day” was the description applied to Benson, who recently defeated, on the Gisborne club’s course, the 1947 champion rider, W. O'Brien, in the major scratch event.
