DEATH AT WALTON: MR. GEO. A. FROMM

Advice was received in Gisborne yesterday of the sudden death at Walton, in the Waikato, of Mr. George A. Fromm, third son of the late Mr. and Mrs. A. A. Fromm, and formerly well known in Gisborne.

He was born at Inglewood and came to Gisborne with his parents in 1903 completing his education here and later taking up commercial employment in Gisborne. He was a prominent member of rowing and Rugby football circles and took a keen interest in voluntary training in the days prior to the introduction of the territorial system throughout New Zealand. Among the earliest volunteers for overseas service with the first N.Z.E.F., Mr. Fromm served throughout the First World War and in 1919 he took up a sheepfarming property in the Waikato in partnership with his brother, the late Mr. Percy Fromm. The latter retired from the partnership later and returned to newspaper work, in which ho was engaged at the time of his death some years ago in Wellington. Mr. George Fromm carried on with his farming venture and achieved a solid success, becoming a prominent settler and taking part in ex-servicemen's organisations and in most of the public activities centring on Walton. He married Miss Elsie Ross, a member of an Auckland family, who survives him with her two sons, Messrs. George and Donald Fromm. Two sisters of the late Mr. Fromm also survive, they being Mesdames F. James and F. Hayward, both resident in the Waikato.
