Big Fall In Britain’s Meat Consumption

(10.30 a.m.) LONDON, Dec. 12. The Commonwealth Economic Committee in a report on world meal supplies said Britain’s consumption of meat per capita had decreased from 1191 b. before the war to 771 b. in 1947.

Conversely, the United States consumption had risen from 1281 b. per head before the war to 1551 b. in 1947. The Commonwealth’s share. of the world's meat exports had risen for beef, baron and canned meat, but had fallen for mutton and lamb. Commonwealth countries supplied one-half of Britain’s imports of all meats for 1947, compared with two-fifths before the war.
