CLAIMS NOT TO BE PRESSED FOR ROYAL SHOW YET
Gisborne does not propose to pres? any claims the district may have on a Royal Show when it is again allocated to the eastern district of the Royal Agricultural Society in 1952, but desires to be kept in mind for inclusion on the roster in future. A decision to this effect was made at a meeting of the general executive of the P.B. Agricultural and Pastoral Association yesterday. During the discussion Mr. R. F. Hutchinson said the Gisborne association membership stood fourth in New Zealand and the claims of the district were high. Gisborne had a larger membership than Christchurch and Invercargill where Royals were conducted. The subject was introduced in a letter from the Royal society asking the association to forward particulars concerning the facilities of the grounds if it wished to confirm its application for a Royal Show in 1952. That information would be required by the eastern district council. Mr. G. E. Law: What do we get out of a Royal Show besides the publicity? The secretary, Mr. A. R. Trafford: It would cost us about £ISOO. The chairman, Mr. P. F. Barker: Wc would want a lot more hotels and other accommodation if we had a Royal Show. The decision as already stated was then made. In regard to the date of the Autumn Show next year, the Royal society asked 'f the change in date from March 19 was still desired in view of the fact that the Royal tour had been postponed. It was decided to adhere to April 2. the new date, as a certain amount of advertising had been carried out and sports bodies had arranged their dates to tic in with that date.
