‘Bacon For Breakfast Increases Church Congregation
LONDON, Dec. 5
The prospect of bacon for breakfast after Holy Communion has increased the average morning congregation at Whitton Church, Northwich, Cheshire, from 30 to 200, says the Daily Mail. The vicar, the Rev. A. Maitland Wood, thought of the breakfast idea as the first step to paying off tho church debt.
"If we get people back to church we get financial support,” he said. “Our first experiment has been completely successful. "Our catering license will not stretch to giving breakfast every Sunday, but we hope to give a bacon breakfast once a month. We charge 9d for a meal.
“We have not lost money and probably will not make any, but we are getting people back to church,” said Mr. Wood.
