CLUB CHAMPIONSHIPS PLAYED IN TOLAGA BAY

Club championship matches in the three grades were continued over the week-end at the Tolaga Bay Bowling Club's green.

A surprise in the Senior Singles Championships was the defeat ot N. B. Smith by P. Waikare in a game that was keenly contested in the closing stages. Waikare gained an early advantage and at the twelfth head led by 12t). but Smith by accurate drawing took charge until the twentieth end, when the scores were level. Waikare lay three on the twenty-first head, but Ins opponent failed with a running shot with his last bow! and the game went to Waikare 13-15. Beer continued in winning vein to defeat E. H. Crowley by 20-10. taking the ascendency on the eleventh head alter being behind 5-3 on the eighth.

Junior Pairs. —S. Olsen and A. Johnson 20 v. A. Donald and O. G. James 9 Junior Singles.—H. Nelson 22 v. II Hindmarsh 14.

Piek-up Games. —N. Jones,, P. Waikare, .1. H. Meikle 14 v. H. Ruru. C. Reid, C. W. Taylor 18; L. Lawrence, H. Morrison, W. M. Smith, L. G. Watson 15 v. A. Johnson, D. Sloan. V. F. Ilurlstone, E. A. Beer 25. A feature ol the senior pairs matches was the reappearance in competition games of the veteran E. Crowley, who showed that ho had not lost any of his old skill when he drew two beautiful shots, on the last head, in partnering his son Geoff, in the game against Taylor and Watson, after the scores were 15-all on the twentieth head. Both bowls smothered the jack and Watson failed to dislodge them. TE ARAROA CLUB

Flay in the club series took place in excellent weather on Ta Araroa green during the week-end. There was a good muster of players and the green was fast.

In the pairs final for the day N. Lovegrove and F. Still 26 beat J. Taylor and W. Perston 17.

Singles games resulted: G. Tamahori 16 v. S. Dewes 15; J. Barbara 13 v. W. •Perston 5; F. Still 24 v. N. Lovegrove 16; in a singles challenge game S. Dewes 24 defeated G. Tamahori 20.

Players who have been assessed for singles handicaps on 21 heads are; G. A. Moore, scr.; J. N. Barbara, 2; O. McLachlan. 4: J. Abraham and L. G. Harris, 6; N. Lovegrove, 8; R. 11. Taylor, J. Taylor, F. Still and Mrs. V. Taylor, 10.
