COMPOSTING OF BOROUGH WASTE
He had been keeping closely in touch with the composting of borough waste during the past three and a half years, but the matter was still in its experimental stages. The borough engineer, Mr. G. M. Beaumont, made this statement in answer to questions by councillors at last night’s meeting of the Gisborne Borough Council. Unless the council was prepared to spend £2OOO. he thought they should wait and see the results of experiments at present going on with municipal composting, said Mr. Beaumont. The town clerk, Mr. W. M. Jenkins, reported that he had recently forwarded information regarding the borough refuse collected to an Australian firm which was installing composting plants in Australia.
