Have You Heard The Anchor Story?
To indicate just how irresponsible some persons were these days, Mr. I. J. Quigley told Gisborne Borough councillors last night that recently he had had two scwt. anchors stolen from lighters moored in the basin near the slipway. The second anchor to be taken disappeared two months ago, and the first some time' before that.
Mr. Quigley was at a loss to know just what use they would be to anyone. They were too heavy for small craft and too light for heavier vessels. The disappearance of the anchors remained a mystery. It would require a two-man lift to remove them and the intruders would have had to go to some trouble to unshackle the anchors before they could be taken away.
