Telephones for Napier
New equipment for the Napier telephone exchange, which will enable 400 new subscribers to be connected, has arrived from England. Its installation has begun, but it is not expected that it will be completed for six months. The equipment has been on order for nearly five years.
PREPARING TOR ELECTIONS. —A decision by the national committee of the Communist Party to contest the general elections in more constituencies than previously was announced in Wellington yesterday. The main drive said the Communist organisation would be to defeat the National Party and revive and re-establish the Labour movement on socialist foundations. The organisation said the National Party would defeat Labour if the policies of the Right-wing Government leaders continued. Where the Communists were not presenting candidates the Communist Party would support the Labour candidates.
