FLOUR CERTIFIED UNFIT FOR USE

A sample of flour which was sent to the Christchurch laboratory of the New Zealand Wheat Research Institute by a Waipukurau baking firm has been analysed and classified as “tainted and unfit for human consumption.” The flour was part of a consignment for use over the Labour Day week-end. Many complaints were received by the company about the bread, and many customers were lost as a result. Most of the consignment, it was claimed, could not be used, and in an eilort to bring home to the public the'poor quality of the flour, samples are being made available free of charge. A bag of flour has been placed outside the bake-shop bearing a notice: “Free. This flour was supplied to us to make your bread. Take a sample—we won’t use it.” A complaint has also been sent to the Minister of Health.
