BIG HOUSING PLANS FOR WHANGAREI: NOVEL LAY-OUT

(P.A.) AUCKLAND, Nov. 30. Whangarei is to have a State housing suburb embodying a new principle in lay-out, the first of its kind in the Dominion. The main feature will be a ring road on the perimeter with branching minor residential streets in loops and cul-de-sacs. Shops and other community activities will be situated in a central reserve.

The site is: A block of 150 acres in the-tree-dotted undulating Kensington area near the Mount Denbv golf course. The foundations of the first houses—there will be 500 housing 2000 people—are expected to be laid early in the New Year.

The only other place where the ring road scheme will be introduced is Hamilton. There, however, the existing boundary roads will be used.
