FIFTEEN FORMER ALL BLACKS IN CHOICE FOR 1949
The North and South Islands each supplied 15 of the Rugby players announced on Saturday as the All Blacks to visit South Africa next year. Otago heads the provincial union representation with 10 players, Auckland comes next with nine, South Canterbury has three, Canterbury, Wanganui and Waikato two apiece and Hawke’s Bay and Wellington one each. Fifteen, including last season’s touring captain. F. R. Allen, have already played in the All Black jersey, the 14 besides Allen being the backs, R. W. H. Scott, W. G. Argus and M. P. Goddard, 1946-47, E. G. Boggs, and R. R. Elvidge. 1946 and J. C. Korney, 1947, and the forwards, E. H. Catley, H. F. Frazer and C. Willocks, 1946-47, M. J. McHugh, 1946 and R. A. Dalton, J. G. Simpson, N. H. Thornton and L. A. Grant, 1947. Nine members of the 2nd N.Z.E.F. (Kiwi) combination are included in the selection. They are the backs, Allen, Scott. Argus, Boggs, Kearney and W. A. Meatcs and the forwards, Simpson, Thornton and Grant.
