EFFORT TO FRUSTRATE UNION MEETING FAILS
MELBOURNE, Aug. 30,
An elaborate plot, laid to sabotage a meeting of 500 clerks protesting against Communist influence in their union was foiled when members disregarded bogus messages. An Australian Labour Party industrial group within the union advertised the time and place of the meeting but hundreds of clerks received bogus notices in the mail that the meeting had been transferred to another hall. , , . , Fewer than 30 people were deceived and when they arrived at the wrong hall Labour Parly officials were waiting with cars to take them to the correct meeting place. ~ , The chairman said he had proof that nearly 1000 clerks received fake notices.
