COUNSEL ILL : SECOND ADJOURNMENT OF TRIAL
(P.A.) NEW PLYMOUTH, Aug. 30. For the second time during the trial of Ralph Eric Pickering on charges of stealing money from the New Plymouth Borough Council the hearing had to be adjourned because of the illness of the defence counsel, Mr. P. Grey. The trial commenced last Monday and after two days the Crown’s evidence had not been completed. On Wednesday morning it was reported to the court that Mr. Grey was ill and so the hearing was adjourned until this morning, when his doctor informed the court that counsel would not be fit to continue until Thursday. In the unusual circumstances, the court granted an application for a further adjournment, which was not opposed by the Crown.
