Three Australian Centuries Against Somerset: 560 for 5

(9 a.m.) LONDON, Aug. 29. Subdued by brilliant centuries from Harvey, Hassett and lan Johnson, Somerset’s bowling lay at the mercy of the Australians on an easy wicket at Taunton on Saturday. This was Johnson's first century in first-ciass cricket and Hammcnce missed his century by one. The Australians ended a spectacular day with the massive total 500 for five wickets. Boundaries cascaded from the bat and six sixers soared into the crowd or on to the grandstand roof —two each to Harvey. Johnson and Miller.Hassett and Harvey put on 187 in 120 minutes before Hassett threw his wicket away. The Johnson-Hammence stand yielded 195 in 108 minutes and Johnson and Miller slammed another 59 in half an hour before stumps.
