MOTHER OF SEVEN KILLED BY HIT-AND-RUN MOTORIST

(P A.) AUCKLAND. Aug 30. The mother of seven children was killed by a hit-and-run motorist near Drury on Saturday night. She was Mrs. Dorothy Austin, aged 39 wife of Mr. Edgar Austin, Ruakaka, Whangarei. Mrs. Austin was on holidav at the home of her sister, Mrs. Margaret Young, of Drury. They were walking to Mrs. Young's house along the main road. The vehicle struck Mrs. Austin, who was on the outside, from behind. She was picked up by the car and carried along by it for 110 feet before being deposited in a ditch. Death was instantaneous. Her clothing was exten- i sively torn. After throwing off Mrs. Austin the car continued with two wheels in the ditch for 55 feet before regaining the road. It did not stop. , Mrs. Young suffered severe shock, but J escaped serious physical injury. She J had abrasions to the side which might have been caused by her sister's body after it had been struck.
