OTAGO BEAT H.B. 12-6 AFTER A HARD TUSSLE
(P.A.) DUNEDIN, Aug. 30. Hawke’s Bay made a bold bid to capture the Ranfuriy Shield before a crowd of 20,000 at Carisbrook on Saturday, but Otago emerged the winners by 12 to six after a hard battle. The Hawke’s Bay forwards played a spoiling game and bustled the Otago inside backs into errors, at the same time playing a grand game on defence. Only one try was scored during the game, which was notable for vigorous rather than brilliant play. ! For Otago, Botting scored and L. Haig (2) and Moor kicked penalties. Wishnowsky kicked two penalties for Hawke’s Bay.
