KIWI SETTLERS’ POWER SUPPLY : HIWINUI EXTENSION
Extension of the P.B. Eletcric-Power Board’s service to two Kiwi settlers’ homes in the Tiwinui block at Ngatapa, formerly known as Taumata, was approved at yesterday's meeting of the board.
The settlers’ homes have been carried close to completion, and in one case at least a house is already occupied, the settler and his family depending upon a kerosene stove for cooking in the absence of power
The board has been negotiating with the Lands Department concerning the guarantees to be required from the settlers, as a preliminary to the erection of the line extension.
After a discussion in committee the board authorised the executive officers to put the Hiwinui extension under construction subject to certain further inquiries from the department being satisfactorily disposed of.
